09/04/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals will wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader today at Kauffman Stadium. The first pitch is set for 5:10 (ET), with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
The twinbill was decided after Wednesday's scheduled game was postponed by rain. Dana Eveland will pitch the opener for Oakland against Brian Bannister. The second game will feature Dan Meyer taking the mound for the A's and Kyle Davies pitching for the Royals.
Meanwhile, the Royals will try to string back-to-back wins together for the first time in a month on Thursday. The Royals drew first blood in this series on Tuesday, as Billy Butler hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBI to lead Kansas City to a 5-2 win.
Zack Greinke pitched seven strong innings and earned the win for the Royals, who have won two of their last three on the heels of a four-game skid. Greinke allowed two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The Royals haven't put back-to-back wins together since taking the final two games of their three-game series with the Chicago White Sox from August 1-3. Ironically, that was also the last series Kansas City won.
Daric Barton homered for the Athletics, who have dropped three of their last four games. Gio Gonzalez suffered the loss after he allowed four runs -- three earned -- on two hits with five strikeouts over four innings of work.
Bannister has lost his last five starts and his last eight decisions. His most recent setback came last Wednesday against Texas, when he allowed three runs (2 earned) and six hits in 6 2/3 innings, dropping him to 7-14 on the year to go along with a 5.75 ERA.
Bannister is 1-1 lifetime against the A's with a 3.96 ERA in four starts.
Eveland, who is 8-8 with a 4.21 ERA, did not get a decision last Thursday against Minnesota, which managed just two runs and five hits off of him in five innings during Oakland's 3-2 win.
The left-hander defeated the Royals back on April 20 in his only other start against them. He allowed a run and three hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Davies will try to snap a four-start losing streak when he takes the ball for the Royals in the nightcap. He last pitched Friday at Detroit, allowing six runs -- two earned -- in 4 2/3 frames of a 6-3 defeat.
The right-hander is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA in two lifetime starts against Oakland.
Meyer gets the call for the A's this evening and is 0-3 with a 6.33 earned run average in eight games (3 starts) this season. He was rocked in a 12-2 loss his last time out Friday versus Minnesota, yielding six runs -- two earned -- in just 1 2/3 innings of work.
Meyer, a lefty, faced the Royals for the first and only time on August 17 of the 2007 season. He gave up six runs, three of which were earned, in four innings of his team's 9-2 setback.
Kansas City has won eight of its last 12 matchups with the A's. The Royals have also won the last four games in the series and will try to win five in a row against Oakland for the first time since turning the trick from September 14, 1998-May 20, 1999.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
