Red Sox avoid arbitration with OF Pena

02/16/2007 - Ft. Myers, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration and agreed to terms with outfielder Wily Mo Pena on a one-year contract. Per club policy, financial terms were undisclosed.

Pena, who was acquired from Cincinnati in March of 2006, batted .301 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI in 84 games with the Red Sox in 2006 despite missing considerable time with a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist.

In five career seasons -- with the Reds and Boston -- Pena has a .261 batting average with 62 home runs and 176 RBI.
