06/28/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - As the weather is getting warmer, so are the Phillies' bats.
Given their past success against Reds starter Johnny Cueto, that isn't likely to change this evening when Philadelphia begins a three-game set versus Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park.
After averaging just 2.5 runs per game during an 8-17 stretch from May 18-June 15, the Phillies have plated 75 runs over their last 11 games, including 21 in their most recent set with the Blue Jays that saw Philadelphia take two of three.
The Phils capped the weekend series with an 11-2 triumph on Sunday as Jimmy Rollins and Ben Francisco both ended with three hits and two RBI. Poor defense by the Blue Jays also factored into the outcome, as six of Philadelphia's runs were unearned.
"We want to stay hot going into the All Star break," said first baseman Ryan Howard, who scored three runs on Sunday and has five homers and 12 RBI over his last 11 games.
Jamie Moyer reached a couple of milestones in winning Sunday's finale. He hurled seven innings of two-run ball and became the 40th pitcher in major league history to reach 4,000 innings pitched. However, he also allowed the 506th homer of his career, passing former Phillies great Robin Roberts for the most all-time.
Philadelphia, which has won five of its last six to get within 2 1/2 games of first place in the National League East, was without Placido Polanco for a second straight game after he aggravated a left elbow injury on Friday. He could also sit out tonight as well.
The Blue Jays series technically marked the opener of the Phillies' 10-game road trip, though the set was shifted from the Rogers Centre to Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park due to security concerns involving Toronto's hosting of the G20 Summit. The Phils were credited as the visiting team and batted first in the series.
The Phillies will try to keep their offense on track this evening against Cueto, who is 0-2 with a 15.26 earned run average in two career starts versus the club. Most of that damage came during a July 6 meeting in 2009, a contest won by Philadelphia, 22-1. Cueto lasted just two-thirds of an inning, allowing nine runs.
The 24-year-old right-hander has won seven of his last eight decisions this year however, and has allowed just one run over his last two starts after posting a 9.00 ERA in his first three outings of June. He gave up just a run in a tough-luck 1-0 loss to Seattle on June 18 before notching seven-plus shutout innings in besting Oakland on Wednesday. Cueto allowed seven hits while improving to 7-2 with a 3.97 ERA.
Kyle Kendrick opposes Cueto and he struggled his last time out. After going 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA in five previous outings, four of those starts, the right- hander yielded five runs -- four earned -- on six hits in four-plus innings versus the Indians on Wednesday. He did not factor into the decision of his team's 7-6 win and is 4-2 on the year with a 4.71 ERA.
"My command wasn't good," Kendrick told the Phillies' website. "I fell behind hitters. I left the ball up and got hit hard. I didn't do my job tonight."
Though the 25-year-old has allowed at least four runs in each of his three career starts versus the Reds and has never made it past the sixth inning, he is 3-0 with a 6.61 ERA against them.
The Reds hope for better results versus Kendrick tonight after having their five-game winning streak snapped with Sunday's 5-3 defeat to Cleveland.
Joey Votto had two hits, one a two-run homer, to extend his streak of reaching base to 35 straight games, while Bronson Arroyo allowed four runs over five innings.
"I felt pretty good today, actually, which is so ironic, " Arroyo said. "The last two times out I felt terrible and threw a lot of zeroes on the board and today I felt pretty good and you don't get the same results."
Despite the loss, the Reds remained a half-game up on the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.
The Phillies took five of seven from the Reds last season and have won nine of the last 12 meetings overall.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.
MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.
Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.
Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.
After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.
Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.
Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.
If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.
Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
Just because it is the All-Star break doesn’t mean that you can’t bet on NBA hoops this weekend. Be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com to bet on who you think will cut down the nets this July.
